Deezer AI music demonetisation marks a major shift in how streaming platforms deal with artificial intelligence. The company has removed monetisation from most AI-generated tracks after identifying widespread abuse of its payout system.
Since early 2025, Deezer has used its own detection software to flag synthetic music. By January 2026, AI uploads reached about 60,000 tracks per day, making up nearly 40% of new content. As a result, Deezer removed these tracks from royalty payments to protect human artists.
First, Deezer wants to protect real musicians. Second, it wants fans to trust that the music they stream comes from people, not machines.
Therefore, the platform decided to cut off revenue from AI music instead of banning it outright. This approach stops abuse while still allowing responsible use of AI tools in music production.
Most importantly, this policy prevents automated content from flooding the system and pushing human artists out of view.
Deezer uses a proprietary detection system that scans uploads and identifies tracks made fully by artificial intelligence. Once flagged:
The track receives an AI label
It is removed from recommendation systems
It earns no royalties
However, Deezer does not block AI-assisted music. Artists can still use AI for mastering, artwork, or promotion. The restriction applies only when AI creates the music itself.
Deezer is not acting alone. Bandcamp has gone further by banning AI-generated music entirely. In January, Bandcamp announced that it would no longer allow music created wholly or mostly by AI, nor permit AI systems to imitate real artists.
Meanwhile, Deezer previously reported that more than 28% of new uploads were fully AI-generated.
Leaked reports suggest AI companies like Suno, generate music at industrial scale, producing volumes comparable to major streaming catalogues every few weeks.
Deezer AI music demonetisation protects royalty pools from being diluted by synthetic content. As a result, real musicians benefit from:
Fairer payouts
Better discovery
Stronger platform trust
Furthermore, artists can still use AI tools responsibly without being punished. Fans now receive clearer labels and better recommendations. Consequently, listeners can support real creators with confidence, knowing their streams are not funding automated systems.
