Shazam, the music app that helps millions identify songs, has reached an incredible milestone—100 billion track recognitions.
Launched in 2002 as an SMS-based service, Shazam made its way to the App Store in 2006. Since then, it has grown into one of the most popular music discovery tools in the world. Apple’s 2018 acquisition of Shazam for $400 million further boosted its influence in the music industry.
“This monumental milestone not only reflects how much people enjoy using Shazam but also their appetite for new music,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats.
To highlight the scale of its achievement, Shazam revealed the 100 billion figure is equal to 12 songs identified for every person on Earth. It’s proof of how much people rely on Shazam to explore and rediscover music.
In August, Kavinsky’s synthwave anthem ‘Nightcall’ made headlines when it became the most Shazamed track in a single day. The song, originally released in 2010, gained renewed popularity after being featured in the Paris 2024 Olympics closing ceremony. On 11th August, ‘Nightcall’ was Shazamed 6.9 million times in just one day, topping Shazam’s Global Top 200 chart.
Meanwhile, Apple continues to innovate in music and technology. Its flagship DAW, Logic Pro, recently updated to version 11.1, adding new features, effects, and fixes. In addition, Apple announced a new hearing aid feature for its AirPods Pro 2, enhancing accessibility for users.
Shazam’s $100 billion milestone is a testament to its impact on music discovery. Whether it’s uncovering underground hits or reconnecting fans with classics, Shazam remains an essential tool for music lovers worldwide.
