Clarkee has been spinning for over 30 years, starting way back in the mid 1980’s and the explosion of Acid House / Chicago House music in America and in particular, the UK.
His time behind the decks has seen him play at some of the worlds biggest festivals including T in the Park, The Redbull Urban Games and the World X Games, as well as residencies across the UK. Radio gigs, both pirate and licenced and several tour contracts working with the likes of M People, Juliet Roberts and Byron Stingily.
His first full time residency was secured at the tender age of 13 in an over 21s nightclub called Co-Cos. Having a residency of his own, at that age and knowing all the DJs in the cities record shops, it didn’t take long for him to realise, there wasn’t a club in the city he couldn’t get entrance to, there was always someone around to get him in if needed.
Back in the day, the record stores were where a DJ would spend most of his free time, it was a real hangout. Relationships with fellow DJs and promoters quickly built and this got him the gigs he wanted. Being so young made it easy to attract bookings back in the day, almost like a novelty act.
“I have been very fortunate to have had the work I have had but sometimes, the life of a DJ comes with much sacrifice, especially family wise. It’s a drug, my one life constant, music and mixing”
His love is with all things deep, a multi genre DJ he plays how he feels and goes through many phases as to what he enjoys mixing. The Sounds of Chicago and Detroit are always prevalent in his weekly sets here but don’t be surprised if you hear some slamming Drum & Bass, Breakbeat or experimental going down.
