Nottingham’s own Inland Knights are highly esteemed within the UK house music community, and their ‘Revive’ EP offers a chance to experience some of their classic tracks.
Fans from the 1990s and 2000s will remember Inland Knights well; they were key players in the UK deep house movement, often associated with the Smokescreen and DIY free party collectives. Despite their continued presence as DJs, Andy Riley and Laurence Richie have released music sparingly in recent years.
The Revive EP, aptly named, is their first vinyl release since 2017. The track ‘Slummin’ It’ opens with a loopy, trippy vibe, incorporating clever cut-up r&b vocal samples, while ‘The Game’ delivers a robust, bass-heavy, jazz-infused sound reminiscent of their early 2000s work.
Side B features two takes on ‘Deep In’: the original mix, which is sleazy, druggy, and rich in analogue tones, perfect for early morning sets, and a remix by Jake Childs that is more expansive musically yet retains the trippy essence.
Out now from Housetown Records, and we strongly suggest you go get yourself a copy, it’s proper house music!
