Rhythm Nation Presents – Dream Frequency
Written by HMR on 10/22/2017
is delighted to announce an exclusive Oldskool Masters special edition of Rhythm Nation featuring Dream Frequency
November 11 at 5pm to 7pm.
Rhythm Nation is of course the brainchild of Kevin McDiarmid, better known on the scene as DJ-K and has been running since the summer of 2014.
Rhythm Nation became one of the biggest shows on Internet radio within months and has featured guests including Graeme Park, K-Klass and Daz Willott to name a few.
Initially starting as a mix only show Kev will be first to admit his “Radio Voice” is no Pete Tong and the inclusion of an Interview section into the Rhythm Nation format was a gamble and a huge hit with the shows regularly hitting No.1 on DJ-K’s Rhythm Nation Mixcloud page.
Rhythm Nation ran for over 2 years before DJ-K made the decision to focus on his new project under the alias K69 which this year has spawned no less than 6 Top 40 Beatport Chart Hits and become Vamos Music, Electroscene and Dirty Music’s best-selling artist of 2017. Under His K69 alias he also played at the legendary fortress at this years “Beatherder” festival and in his fans words “Rocked it”.
Kevin’s secret weapon as K69 is none other the legendary Dream Frequency frontman Ian Bland whose 30+ years of experience have helped nurture the K69 sound and make it a reality.
Working with Ian on a regular basis throughout 2017 they became good friends and through sheer coincidence both ended up playing the Beat-Herder Festival. After a year long hiatus from old skool Kevin thought it would be a great idea to bring back the oldskool vibe to Rhythm Nation with an exclusive one off show featuring Dream Frequency.
Over the course of many studio sessions it became apparent that K & Blandy shared much in common in terms of music, production and life in general, so it was a natural progression to jump in the time machine with Blandy and take a trip back to chat about the Halcyon Years of rave.
Dream Frequency were born in the late 80’s, heavily influenced by the electronic music being played by the likes of Kraftwerk, Gary Numan and Tangerine Dream Blandy formed Dream Frequency and released the single “Live the dream” in 1990 which was named after a Blackburn rave.
Next up was the 4 tracker “Love, Peace and harmony” but it was the 1991 track “Feel so real” featuring American singer Debbie Sharp which exploded all over Europe and Dream Frequency became the must have P.A. on flyers everywhere. Another little known fact was that Madonna was so blown away by Dream Frequency she offered them a record deal. As the scene mutated Blandy Formed “Dancing Divaz” whose monster remix of The Original’s-I love you baby flew up the charts earning a Gold Disc, another notable remix was New Power Generation’s-Good life.
Moving to the late 90’s and Blandy and his good pal Nipper (Yes, Housemasters own DJ Nipper) formed LCD records and had several monster hits included Dejure-Sanctuary. Fast forward to 2017 and Blandy is still regularly performing as Dream Frequency as well as producing tracks under various aliases including Dancing Divaz.
We are pleased to announce that Housemasters Radio will be hosting this very special exclusive Rhythm Nation as part of our massive Oldskool Masters programming. Make sure you get yourselves tuned in for a trip down memory lane with DJ-K and one of biggest innovators of the UK rave scene.
